Newark 3, New Jersey 2

2B Matt Tomczyk's RBI double in the fourth proved to be the difference in a 3-2 win for the Bears. With two outs and nobody on in a 1-1 game, RF Eric McGee and LF Burt Reynolds hit back-to-back singles. One batter later, C Dan Coury doubled to break the tie and Tomczyk followed up with an RBI double of his own. Jackals LF Bryan Sabatella did his best to give his team a chance. New Jersey's cleanup hitter hammered his second solo home run of the game in the sixth, pulling the Jackals within one. Those two home runs, however, were all the Jackals got. RHP Mike Ness held on for his third win of the year. Including the home runs, Ness scattered nine hits over seven innings. His outing paved the way for Jorge Vasquez, who earned his eighth save of the season.
