New Jersey Jackals News Release
With the weather hovering in the mid-90s, the Jackals fell to the Newark Bears 3-2 in Wednesday's morning game.
Bears starter Mike Ness earns his third victory of the year, going seven strong innings. The Jackals could only muster two Bryan Sabatella home runs, despite ten total hits. New Jersey left nine men on base.
Jorge Vazquez pitched a scoreless ninth, expanding his league-leading saves total to eight, double that of the next closest.
Jackals starter lefty Craig Clark gets the loss, allowing three runs in five innings pitched. A two-run, two-out rally in the fourth topped off by Dan Coury and Matt Tomczyk base hits was the difference, as the Jackals never regained the lead.
The Jackals drop to 19-12, one-and-a-half games out of first place in the Can-Am standings. The Can-Am-leading Quebec Capitales play the Worcester Tornadoes tonight.
Tomorrow will feature more heat and a potential record-tying performance. The Jackals' Isaac Pavlik (3-0, 3.86) is one win back of Joel Bennett's all-time franchise record of 59. Pavlik is coming off a record breaking performance in which he surpassed the aforementioned Bennett with his 633rd strikeout, the most in Jackals history. A complete-game victory would also tie him with Joel Bennett for the all-time record of 15.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434. Jackals 3B Gaetano Giunta exited the game in the 5th inning... Carlos Guzman and Matt Cusick both extended their hitting streaks to eleven... The Jackals did not commit an error, their fourth straight errorless game... The Jackals remain at 697 all-time wins...
