St. George RoadRunners News Release

TUCSON, ARIZONA. - The monsoon rains from the Tucson afternoon could not damper the RoadRunner bats in the first inning. Highlighted by Yosvany Almario's two-run homer, St. George took control of the action and held off late Toro rallies to win Wednesday night 8-7 at Hi-Corbett Field.

St. George improved to 14-11 in the second half and 39-26 overall. The Toros (11-7, 28-28) dropped their second straight to tumble from the top spot in the GBL's Southern Division 2nd-half title chase.

The RoadRunners knocked Tucson's starter Dan Knox out of the game after exploding for six runs on seven hits through eight batters. Almario blasted a 0-2 pitch over the wall in left field, his eighth, for an early 2-0 advantage. SS Eric Pringle capped the frame with a two-out single to right field.

Justin Abbott nursed the lead over 5.1 innings to earn his first victory (1-4) of the year. Julio Castro notched his third save retiring the final four batters of the game.

St. George looks for its first road series sweep on Thursday sending GBL leader in ERA Raymar Diaz (6-2, 2.79) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled at 8:05pm Mountain.

Listen to the live action on the RoadRunners Radio Network with John Potter beginning with the pregame show at 7:50pm Mountain.
