Regina Pats News Release
First Period
Less than a minute into the game, the Oil Kings took an early lead courtesy of Henrik Samuelsson. Samuelsson's goal was assisted by Curtis Lazar and Cody Corbett.
The Pats had a 5-on-3 opportunity at the 10:57 mark with David Musil and Mitch Moroz in the box for the visitors. Chandler Stephenson had the best opportunity. Stephenson's shot from the point deflected off an Oil King's defender and hit the post.
Pats Braden Christoffer took a trip to the box for slashing with 8:24 left in the opening frame. Forty-three seconds into the Oil King's powerplay, Moroz's failed wrap around attempt resulted in a backdoor pass to Michael St. Croix. With Pats goaltender Teagan Sacher down and out, St. Croix tallied a powerplay goal for the visitors. Corbett also registered an assist on the goal. The Oil Kings led the Pats 2-0 at the end of the first period.
Second Period
Pats goaltender Matt Hewitt replaced Sacher to start the second period. The Oil Kings' constant pressure resulted in a Darian Henry penalty for tripping. Martin Gernat scored the Oil Kings' second powerplay goal of the game at 13:04 from St. Croix and Samuelsson.
Late in the second period, Gernat was called for checking from behind, which gave the Pats a powerplay. The Blue and White didn't register a shot on goal, and failed to convert on the late man-advantage. Hewitt made 18 saves in the frame as the Pats trailed by three goals at the end of 40-minutes.
Third Period
Sean Whelan and Stephen Hak each took delay of game penalties that gave the Oil Kings a 5-on-3 man-advantage. The visitors cashed in twice with goals from Dylan Wruck and Keegan Lowe.
In the final five minutes of the game, the visitors tallied a pair of even strength goals from T.J. Foster and Stephane Legault. The Oil Kings went 4-for-7 on the powerplay and defeated the Pats 7-0.
