After almost a month of training camp, opening night has finally arrived for the Eskimos' 2005 CFL season. They'll have plenty of new faces in the line-up with 18 starters taking the field that weren't with the club in 2004. The Renegades are also looking to make a statement of their own in 2005.

Ricky Ray and Jason Maas have shared practice reps all week and who gets the start may be a game-time decision for rookie head coach Danny Maciocia. Ray hyper-extended his knee two weeks ago in pre-season and Maas is in the late recovery stages of off-season shoulder surgery.

The Eskimos escaped training camp almost injury free with the exception of DL Steve Charbonneau who will miss the tilt due to a banged-up knee along with DL Randy Spencer and OL Chris Morris.

Friday could be another ‘arms race' with Kerry Joseph in town battling Maas and Ray. Last season, Ottawa and Edmonton averaged 30 and 36 points per game against each other.

Ottawa certainly has weapons to be wary of with the likes of Joseph, Ranek, Armstead and Murphy and the Eskimo defense will be looking to establish itself early with a number of new faces on the d-line and secondary including Joe Montford, Kelly Wiltshire, Davis Sanchez, William Loftus, and Tim Fleiszer making their West Division debut on Friday.

Plenty of fireworks are likely as 2005 kicks off in Edmonton
