(CALGARY) The Calgary Stampeders Football Club and the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club have jointly announced a major new sponsorship partnership with Alberta Pork. Under the agreement, Alberta Pork will become title sponsor of the Labour Day Classic football game in Calgary and the return match in Edmonton for the next two seasons.

The agreement is part of an extensive new marketing program from Alberta Pork, the organization representing pork producers in the province. Called "Pork Sports," the broad-based program involves prominent signage at the games and major contests on the Alberta Pork Web site. The program will extend further to the public through pork products in the concession areas at sporting events and community tailgate parties.

"We are very pleased about this new partnership and what it means to our fans, community and football team," says Stampeders Vice-President Lee Genier. "The Labour Day Classic and the return match in Edmonton are two of the premiere games of the season in the CFL, touching all Albertans. This a great connection for our teams and Alberta Pork."

Edmonton Eskimos Director of Sales and Business Development, Greg Treble, says the CFL team looks to establish meaningful marketing relationships with the Alberta community and this is an excellent example of that. "Sports and Canadian football reach into every community in Alberta, and as a major food producing industry, Alberta Pork does the same, " Treble says. "This makes Alberta Pork an ideal partner to support these key sporting events."

The Pork Sports program is a dramatic new partnership initiative for Alberta Pork says Roy Kruse, Manager of Consumer Services at Alberta Pork. He says the association has been looking for ways to establish a formal connection with sports in the province for some time.

"Sports draw people together in a positive way, and there is a very natural connection to the enjoyment of food," says Kruse. "In developing the Pork Sports program, we see a way to reach out to those who value healthy, active lifestyles and the very essence of sport activity. Pork is a high quality, lean protein source that meets the nutritional needs of athletes and their fans."

More information on the many activities involved with the Pork Sports program is available on the Alberta Pork consumer services Web site at www.albertapork.ca. The program includes various sporting events across the province and will allow Alberta Pork the opportunity to reach a wide range of sporting fans.
