
Edmonton Assigns Goaltender Olivier Roy and Defenseman Brandon Davidson from Oklahoma City

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League, announced that Edmonton has assigned goaltender Olivier Roy (WAH, Oh-liv-EE-yay) and rookie defenseman Brandon Davidson to the Thunder from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.
The two players are expected to be available to suit up for the Thunder in its next game on Friday, in a 7:30 p.m. (1280 AM KWSX/StocktonThunder.com) home contest at Stockton Arena against the Ontario Reign.
Roy, 21, returns after capping a 2011-12 campaign with the Thunder "Rookie of the Year" award. He broke a Thunder record with four shutouts (T-2, ECHL), was fourth in the ECHL with a .925 save percentage and ranked fifth in the league with 1,222 saves.
He posted a record of 16-18-5 in 40 games, helped guide the Thunder to the second round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs and was twice named ECHL Goaltender of the Week last season.
The 6-foot and 180 pound goaltender has 25 games of AHL experience with Oklahoma City and Springfield, compiling a record of 9-9-1. This season, Roy has appeared in an AHL career high 19 games with the Barons and posted a record of 7-8-1 with a 2.86 goals-against-average.
Selected in the fifth round (133rd overall) by Edmonton in the 2009 NHL"ËEntry Draft, Roy was ranked as the second highest North American goaltender by the Central Scouting Bureau before the draft and he represented Canada at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships.
He appeared in 200 games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with"ËCape"ËBreton and Acadie-Bathurst going 123-57-8 with 14 shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .906. Roy was named to the Canadian Hockey League All-Rookie Team and received the QMJHL Rookie of the Year award in 2007-08.
Davidson, 21, has collected two assists in eight games this season with Oklahoma City and registered eight penalty minutes. He returned to the Barons lineup on Feb. 8 after undergoing successful treatment for testicular cancer, which included removal of the cancerous tissue and one round of chemotherapy.
The Taber, Alberta native earned 133 points in 200 career games from the blueline with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League. He had a career high 13 goals in 69 games last season and added 49 points (3rd in team scoring), earning a selection on the WHL Second All-Star Team (Eastern Conference).
The 6-foot-1 and 202 pound defenseman was named Regina's "Rookie of the Year" in 2009-10 after leading the Pats with a +15 rating and ranking third with 33 assists.
A two time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the seventh consecutive season in 2011-12.
