Edenton Steamers News Release
EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League announce today that current Steamer center fielder Jason Kanzler has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association Rawlings Gold Glove Award Team for defensive excellence.
Kanzler, a 6-0 185-pound junior center fielder from the University at Buffalo, becomes the first player from the Bulls' program ever selected and only the second Mid-American Conference player named to the ABCA Gold Glove Award Team since its inception in 2007. Defensively, Kanzler was the only everyday player for Buffalo who finished with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage. He also recorded 197 putouts and added 11 assists, which led all UB outfielders.
Kanzler was a terror at the plate as well for the Bulls this past spring. He finished the season playing in 55 games with a .345 batting average, 50 runs scored, 77 hits, including 13 doubles and a team-leading five triples. He added eight home runs and 40 RBIs along with a .565 slugging percentage and a .395 on-base percentage. He also led the team in stolen bases, going 17-for-21. His batting average, runs scored, and hits were all second on the team and he finished in the top four of every major offensive category this spring for the Bulls. Kanzler was named back-to-back MAC East Player of the Week in the month of May and during that period had a career high five-RBI game on Sunday, May 6th in a 6-2 Bulls win over Toledo. Kanzler was named to the All-MAC second team and helped lead UB to its first ever appearance in the MAC tournament at season's end.
