Morehead City Marlins News Release

EDENTON, N.C. - The Edenton Steamers (1-0 second half, 19-8 overall) dropped eight runs in the third inning over the Morehead City Marlins (0-1 second half, 10-18 overall) en route to a 15-4 victory in the first game of the second half for each team at Historic Hicks Field Saturday evening.

After the Steamers already led 1-0 through two innings, the Marlins took the lead in the top of the third when Chad Shannon singled and Jarrett Higgins followed up with his first home run of the summer to make the score 2-1 in favor of Morehead City.

The Steamers opened the floodgates in the bottom of the third inning however, plating eight runs on seven hits, highlighted by a solo home run from Jason Kanzler, a two-run double from Mike Camporeale and a bases loaded, bases clearing double by Koby Kraemer to put Edenton ahead 9-2.

Then in the fourth inning, after the Marlins scored one in the top of the inning, Robbie Zinsmeister knocked his first home run of the season, a grand slam to left field that gave the Steamers a 13-4 lead. Edenton tacked on one more run before the night was complete to close the scoring at 15-4.

Kevin Bibler (2-0) earned the win, his second of the week against the Marlins after defeating Morehead City in game two of last Sunday's doubleheader while Matt Ogden (1-1) absorbed the loss.

The Marlins are back home tomorrow night as they host the Fayetteville SwampDogs at Big Rock Stadium. It's Koozie Night presented by Consumer Concepts and Super Duper Sunday presented by Time Warner Cable where kids run the bases after the game. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. as Matt Sutor has the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.
