Eddie Moten named AFL Defensive Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia Soul defensive specialist Eddie Moten was named the Arena Football League's Defensive Player of the Week today for his efforts in leading the Soul to a 51-48 win over the Dallas Desperados on Saturday.
Moten (5-10, 185, Texas A&M Kingsville), who is in his second AFL season, set a new franchise record with three interceptions, including two in the Soul endzone, in the win over the Eastern Division Champion Desperados. Moten, who has recorded four of the 11 interceptions thrown by Dallas QB Clint Dolezel this season, added 8.5 tackles in the win that kept the Soul's playoff hopes alive.
On the season, Moten is ranked first in the League in interceptions (11), fourth in total tackles (94.5), fourth in solo tackles (82) and fifth in breakups (18). He has also received ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors five times this season.
Along with Moten, other players receiving League recognition for their play in Week 15 were Chicago Rush OS Bobby Sippio, who was named Offensive Player of the Week and Arizona WR/LB Randy Gatewood, who was named Ironman of the Week.
The Soul travel to Georgia to face the Force this Saturday, May 13 for their final regular season game of the 2006 season. A win over the Force will put the Soul in the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet (Philadelphia).
