NORFOLK, Va. - The American Hockey League officially announced the 2014 Calder Cup Eastern Conference Semifinal schedule between the Norfolk Admirals and the St. John's IceCaps Monday afternoon. The best-of-seven series begins Tuesday, May 6, at Mile One Centre and shifts to Norfolk Scope Arena beginning Saturday, May 10, for Games 3, 4, and 5.
The Admirals won three games in a row to advance to the second round after losing Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal against the top-seeded Manchester Monarchs. Norfolk took the series three games to one after being the eighth and final team in the Eastern Conference to clinch a spot in the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs.
St. John's entered the postseason as the fourth seed and cruised past fifth-seeded Albany in the opening round, taking three of four games in that series. As one of the hotter teams in the entire league for the last two months of the regular season, St. John's won five of their last seven games and 13 of their last 20 to earn the fourth seed. The IceCaps are the only Eastern Conference opponent that Norfolk did not play this season and the last time the two clubs met in the postseason, the Admirals swept them, 4-0, on their way to winning Norfolk's first Calder Cup title in 2012.
