San Jose Earthquakes News Release

The San Jose Earthquakes fell 3-1 to Atlanta United FC on Saturday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Atlanta scored an early goal, but Quakes midfielder Cristian Espinoza leveled the match at one apiece when he forced United goalkeeper Brad Guzan to concede an own goal. The Earthquakes were ultimately defeated when United midfielders Emerson Hyndman and Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez netted goals in the 90th and 92nd minute, respectively.

Three matches remain in San Jose's regular-season schedule, including a pair of home matches that will take place this week at Avaya Stadium. San Jose host the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The Quakes will then host Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, Sept. 29.

EARTHQUAKES NOTES

TEAM SPECIFIC

Where Things Stands

San Jose remain above the playoff line at seventh in the Western Conference. The Quakes are 13-13-5 with three regular-season matches remaining.

Goal-Scorers

The Quakes have already tallied 50 goals this season with three matches to go, surpassing their total from last year (49). It marks the fifth time in club history in which the Quakes tally 50+ goals in a single season and first time since 2012. The Quakes have scored 49+ goals in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1996-97.

Back at Avaya Fortress

The Quakes are back at Avaya Stadium this week after a three-match road trip. San Jose holds a two-match win streak on their turf in addition to a 12-match unbeaten streak (10-0-2) that dates back to April 6. It is the team's longest such streak since 2013 (16; 11-0-5).

PLAYER SPECIFIC

League Legend

Forward Chris Wondolowski made his 300th MLS start on Saturday at Atlanta United, 290 of which were made with the Earthquakes. Wondolowski is the 18th player in MLS history to record 300+ regular-season starts.

Midfielder Magnus Eriksson surpassed 5,000 career minutes since joining MLS (5,031). He has appeared in 61 of 65 matches since signing for San Jose ahead of the 2018 season.

VS. NEXT OPPONENTS

Winning Record

San Jose are unbeaten in three straight matches against the Philadelphia Union. The Quakes look to build on their 4-3-4 winning record against the Pennsylvania side in Wednesday night's match.

Level Record

San Jose hold a 10-10-6 record against Seattle Sounders FC. The Quakes most recently faced Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field on April 24. Midfielder Shea Salinas tallied a brace to earn his side a 2-0 lead, but the Quakes were ultimately forced to settle for a 2-2 draw. The Quakes are 5-2-4 against Seattle Sounders FC at home.

Good History

Quakes forward Chris Wondolowski has scored 11 goals all-time against Seattle, most in MLS history. Only one other active MLS player has more than five goals against Sounders FC (Fanendo Adi - 8).
