San Jose Earthquakes News Release


The San Jose Earthquakes played two road matches last week, falling to the Portland Timbers 2-0 at Providence Park on Wednesday before defeating Real Salt Lake 4-3 at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday. Wednesday's result eliminated the Quakes from postseason contention.

The Earthquakes are now preparing to play their regular season finale against FC Dallas on Sunday, Nov. 7. The match, presented by PayPal, will kick off from PayPal Park at 3:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.

Winning the Series

The three meetings between the two teams this season resulted in 17 total goals, with the Quakes winning two of the three matches. The road team won all three contests.

For San Jose

Cade Cowell, Carlos Fierro, Chris Wondolowski and Jackson Yueill each scored in the Quakes' 4-3 win over RSL.

Extending his Lead

Chris Wondolowski scored his fourth goal of the season and 170th of his MLS career, extending his own league record. It also marked his 78th goal on the road, extending his own MLS records. Wondolowski now has 13 career goals vs. Real Salt Lake, including three this season, most all-time.

Helping Hands

Cade Cowell, Carlos Fierro, Marcos Lopez and JT Marcinkowski each tallied an assist in Saturday's match. Marcinkowski tallied his first assist of the season and first of his MLS career.

Gaining Minutes

Jack Skahan made his second start of the season and first since July 24.

Streak on the Line

The Quakes hold an eight-game unbeaten streak against FC Dallas (4-0-4), most recently earning a 1-1 road draw at Toyota Stadium on Sept. 11.

Defend our Home

The Earthquakes are unbeaten at PayPal Park against FC Dallas since April 14, 2017, holding a 2-0-2 home record.

Final Round

The two clubs will meet for the third and final time in the 2021 MLS season, with the Quakes defeating the Texas side 3-1 at home on April 24, before tying 1-1 on the road on Sept. 11.

Season Finale

Sunday's match will see the Earthquakes close the regular season on Decision Day at home for the first time since 2017 when San Jose hosted and defeated Minnesota 2-1 to punch their ticket to the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Goalscoring Legend

Chris Wondolowski, who just scored his 170th MLS goal against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, currently has seven career goals vs. Dallas, tied for second most among all active players in the league.

Promising Futures

San Jose's Cade Cowell will face Dallas' Ricardo Pepi on Sunday. With both only 18 years of age, the duo has combined to tally 18 goals and 8 assists this year.

Knowing the Opponent

Oswaldo Alanis has scored one goal in each of the two matches against FC Dallas this season.

Absent Player

Midfielder Judson will not be eligible to play on Sunday due to yellow card accumulation.

QUAKES ON LOAN

Gilbert Fuentes, Casey Walls at Austin Bold FC

Austin Bold FC played their final regular season match on Saturday, Oct. 30, recording a 1-1 draw against the Charlotte Independence. Casey Walls started and played all 90 minutes, ending the year with six starts in 15 appearances for Austin. Gilbert Fuentes entered the match as a substitute on Saturday, finishing the year with five appearances.

Austin finished in sixth in the USL Championship Mountain Division standings (10-10-12; 42 pts.) and were not able to qualify for the USL postseason.

Thomas Williamson at Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC played to a scoreless draw against the Hartford Athletic on Saturday. Thomas Williamson started and played 63 minutes, bringing him to a total of 12 starts in 26 appearances. Additionally, Williamson tallied six goals and four assists for Pittsburgh during the regular season.

Pittsburgh finished in third in the USL Championship Atlantic Division standings (17-8-7; 58 pts) and will now prepare for the USL postseason when they face Birmingham Legion FC on Sunday, Nov. 7 at BBVA Field.

Eric Calvillo at Orange County SC

Orange County SC extended their winning streak to five, defeating LA Galaxy II 1-0 on Saturday. Eric Calvillo started and played all 90 minutes on Saturday, capping off the regular season with 24 starts in 25 appearances for Orange County, contributing two goals and three assists during the regular season.

Orange County SC finished their USL Championship regular season campaign in second (15-10-7; 52 pts.) in the Pacific Division standings. Saturday's victory secures them home field advantage in their first postseason match against Colorado Switchbacks FC on Saturday, Nov. 6.

ACADEMY UPDATE

The Quakes Academy Boys' U-15 and U-17 squads traveled to Utah to face Real Salt Lake's Academy on Saturday, Oct. 30. The U-15s defeated RSL 3-2, while the U-17s fell 2-1. Back in San Jose, the U-13s and U-14s extended their undefeated streak after keeping two more clean sheets against WSC Crush and outscored them 3-0 and 8-0, respectively.

The U-13s and U-14s now will prepare to take on Diablo Valley Wolves on Saturday, Nov. 6. The U-15s and U-17s are set for back-to-back matches against the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday Nov. 6 and Sunday Nov. 7.
