This Friday, July 10 (7:30 p.m. PT; ESPN), the San Jose Earthquakes are opening their participation in the MLS is Back Tournament by taking on defending MLS Cup champions Seattle Sounders FC, presented by Intermedia. The Quakes are set to become the first Bay Area professional sports team to return to action since COVID-related stoppages in play back in March. Reminder: all group stage matches of the MLS is Back Tournament will count towards the regular season standings.
Friday's match will also kick off the Quakes' free drive-in viewing parties at Earthquakes Stadium, presented by Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC). Fans are invited to watch the group stage matches on the backside of the stadium's large video board from the comfort of their cars. Since being announced on Friday, all matches have already reached capacity. More information about the viewing parties can be found below.

Earthquakes Defender Marcos Lopez Undergoes Appendectomy
San Jose Earthquakes defender Marcos Lopez underwent an appendectomy last Tuesday afternoon to treat acute appendicitis. The surgery was performed at the Orlando Health Doctor P. Phillips Hospital in Orlando, Fla. and recovery is expected to last between two and four weeks.
