EARTHQUAKES NOTES

NEXT GAME VS. NEW YORK RED BULLS (2/26)

Opening 2022 at Home

Entering its 25th season in MLS, the San Jose Earthquakes will host the New York Red Bulls this Saturday in the club's season opener. San Jose has won five of their seven home openers since the PayPal Park's inaugural season in 2015.

Been a While

The Quakes will face the Red Bulls for the first time since March 16, 2019 and will host them at PayPal Park for the first time since Oct. 6, 2018.

Overall Record vs. New York

San Jose holds an 17-14-9 all-time record in 40 regular season matchups against New York, including a 13-3-3 home record.

Starting with a Win

The Earthquakes are in search of their first victory over the Red Bulls since April 13, 2016 (W 2-0 at PayPal Park).

New Faces

San Jose will enter 2022 with seven new players on its roster, including former Minnesota United FC midfielder Jan Gregus, Costa Rica national team defender Francisco Calvo, and new Designated Player Jamiro Monteiro.

Year Four

2022 marks head coach Matias Almeyda's fourth season at the helm. Almeyda has coached 91 regular season matches to date, third most in club history behind Frank Yallop (257) and Dominic Kinnear (147). Saturday's match will also mark the first time Almeyda faces Red Bulls head coach Gerhard Struber in MLS competition.

Player Milestones

Goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski and forward Jeremy Ebobisse would make their 50th and 100th MLS appearances, respectively, should they feature on Saturday.

Cade vs. Caden

San Jose's Cade Cowell and New York's Caden Clark, two of the brightest young talents in MLS, will face one another on Saturday for the first time in their professional careers. With both only 18 years of age, the duo has combined to tally 12 goals and 12 assists in their young MLS careers.

MLS Originals

The two sides were part of the 10 original MLS clubs from the league's inaugural season in 1996, when these teams were named the San Jose Clash and New York/New Jersey MetroStars.
