San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes will celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Night on Wednesday, May 18 vs. the Portland Timbers, presented by Uber Eats. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
According to the 2020 Census, 37.7% of residents in the City of San Jose identify as Asian American or Pacific Islander, making Santa Clara County one of two counties in the Bay Area where AAPI is the largest ethnic group (Alameda). AAPI Heritage Night was developed to promote unity and togetherness of the rapidly growing AAPI community in the Bay Area.
The match will feature culturally specific festivities pregame, including an appearance from P-Lo , a multi-platinum songwriter/producer and Bay Area native of Filipino descent, a taiko drum performance by Drum Revolution and appearances by TikTok personalities and AAPI activists Vignesh Swaminathan (@mrbarricade ) and Adam Juratovac, Esq. (@adamjthelawyer).
"To me, AAPI Heritage Night represents the community celebrating the community, neighbors celebrating neighbors," said Juratovac, Esq. "We all thank the San Jose Earthquakes for opening this space to bring us together."
The match will also feature community organizations like Asians Are Strong , food trucks and concessions from the local AAPI community, and 5,000 koozies will be given out courtesy of Uber Eats.
Special event tickets can be purchased here , with an AAPI Heritage Night t-shirt designed by San Jose artist and visual designer, Alyssa Wigant, available as an optional add-on.
