San Jose Earthquakes News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the team has signed goalkeeper Andrew Weber to a multi-year contract. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Weber returns to the club where he played in 2009 and half of 2010. He first signed with San Jose in February of 2009 and made two appearances with the Earthquakes, winning on his debut against D.C. United on September 27, 2009 by a score of 2-1. He later played the full 90 minutes of a 2-2 draw against Chivas USA, making eight saves. He also earned a start in a U.S. Open Cup play-in game against the New York Red Bulls.

The net-minder was also on the roster at the beginning of the 2010 season, but did not feature in any matches and was eventually released on June 30, 2010.

Weber played with the Montreal Impact of the United Soccer League First Division from 2006-08 and made 29 regular season appearances with the club. In 2008, his last season with Montreal, he appeared in five regular season matches and one CONCACAF Champions League match. During his first two years with the Impact, he played in 24 matches and posted a 12-4-8 record with 10 shutouts, while posting a 0.72 goals-against average.

The Phoenix resident played his college soccer at the University of New Mexico, and started in goal all four years for the Lobos. He finished his career as the all-time leader in school history in games played (83), minutes played (7,681), wins (50), saves (350) and shutouts (25). He also posted a 1.18 goals-against average in his career.

Weber was a three-time All-MPSF honoree and was named All-Far West Region twice. As a senior he allowed just 11 goals in 20 games and set the school record for goals-against-average at 0.55. The team went 17-1-2 and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. In his junior season, he became the first goalkeeper in school history to score a goal, when his punt deflected off of a UC Irvine defender and into the net. He led the Lobos to the NCAA Tournament second round as a sophomore.
