
Earthquakes Host Inaugural Kicking Cancer Event on August 3

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that they will be teaming up with several non-profit organizations to host a "Kicking Cancer" event at their game against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday, Aug. 3 at McAfee Coliseum. The game kicks off at noon PT.
"Kicking Cancer" is designed to bring together the Greater Sacramento area in the fight against cancer. In addition to the Earthquakes, this event is being presented by Breast Cancer Network of Strength (Northern California Affiliate), Northern California PET Imaging Center, and Albie Aware, the Albie Carson Breast Cancer Foundation.
"The Kicking Cancer event is a perfect example of our effort to make a positive influence on the local community," said Earthquakes Executive Vice President David Alioto. "We are supporting a great cause, while providing fans from Northern California with a chance to come see the best rivalry in Major League Soccer."
On the morning of the game, over 250 participants and event sponsors will rally together in Sacramento and depart for Oakland to watch the game. By purchasing a ticket through the "Kicking Cancer" event, participants will receive a ticket to the match, a lunch and a spot on a bus from Sacramento to Oakland. A portion of the purchase will be donated to the participating non-profit organizations.
After the game, the participants will have the opportunity to meet Earthquakes defender Ryan Cochrane and Galaxy goalkeeper and Sacramento area native Steve Cronin at a post game reception.
"We are very excited about the success in the inaugural year of the "Kicking Cancer" event," said Ruth Tesar, CEO of Northern California PET Imaging Center. "We look forward to growing the event in the years to come."
It has been estimated that 1,437,180 new cancer cases and 565,650 cancer deaths will occur in the United States in 2008. This unique event is bringing several organizations together for the first time that believes in the importance of the communities fight against a serious disease that affects a staggering amount of people each year.
