SAN JOSE, Calif. - Earthquakes Goalkeeper Andrew Weber visited Lockwood Elementary School Tuesday April 13th as part of the Amway Global Kicks for Kids Program. Weber was first introduced to the children by Lockwood Principal Patricia Ceja and greeted by Earthquakes chants.

The Arizona native stressed the impact that a healthy diet and active lifestyle had on his life and development. Many of the kids in attendance were participating in some sort of sport and Weber related his experiences growing up playing sports with their own. The children also had an important State test coming up for which, Weber was able to leave them with a few tips on proper rest and what to eat to best prepare themselves for such a test.

After Weber wrapped up his speech, he put out a challenge to the children to find the best juggler in the crowd. After a few trials, no one was able to reach the goal of ten touches that Weber put forth until a young man from the Lockwood Soccer team stepped up. He nailed ten touches on his second try and to reward him for his efforts, Weber gave him an official Earthquakes scarf. Principal Ceja also got involved in the soccer skills demo and challenged Weber to stop some shots. After a running start, Ceja put forth two attempts, both of which Weber was able to save. Ceja then went on to present Weber with two official school t-shirts, one being a soccer team polo that their school soccer players wear around campus.

To conclude the afternoon, Earthquakes staff handed out over 150 jersey replica shirts and 300 tickets donated by Amway Global to the students to attend the Earthquakes next home game on April 18th at 7:30 PM PT against the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum.

The Earthquakes and Amway Global teamed up to create the Amway Global Kicks for Kids program in 2009. Through the program, Earthquakes players will visit 15 schools or community centers in the Bay Area to discuss the importance of being active and living a healthy lifestyle. The next school visit will take place on Wednesday, April 29.
