Real Salt Lake News Release

Real Salt Lake Heads to New York Red Bulls Saturday for Western Conference Final Rematch

Having broken its lengthy stretch without posting back-to-back wins last Saturday via a 2-1 triumph over D.C. United, Real Salt Lake (2-1-0, 6 pts.) will focus on ending another streak this Saturday, April 18, when the Utahns will head east in search of their first-ever win against the New York Red Bulls (0-2-2, 2 pts.). The rematch of last year's Western Conference Final is set for 5:30 p.m. MT at Giants Stadium, and can be followed live on KUTV 2.2 / Comcast 111 in addition to radio partners KALL 700 Sports (America First Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 4:30 p.m.) and KE BUENA 1600-AM.

The Red Bulls remain Real Salt Lake's nemesis heading into the teams' first 2009 match-up, with the Utah side having yet to post a "W" against New York in its previous four seasons of play (0-3-6). The series reached a new level of anxiety for Real Salt Lake last November 15, when a tally by now former Red Bull Dave van den Bergh and some bruised woodwork saw New York through to a 1-0 victory and into MLS Cup 2009.

Real Salt Lake has brought points away from Giants Stadium twice before from its four prior visits, mixing in a pair of draws (2005 & 2007) with as many losses (2006 & 2008). Last year's visit to East Rutherford on Sept. 13 started out promising, as Yura Movsisyan scored late in the first half to give RSL to lead, but second half tallies from Juan Pablo Angel and van den Bergh would see the visitors to a 2-1 defeat.

DKMS & Red Bulls to Team up for Bone Marrow Donor Drive Saturday at Giants Stadium

In conjunction with Real Salt Lake's contest this Saturday at the New York Red Bulls, DKMS, the world's largest bone marrow donor center, and the Red Bulls will host a bone marrow donor drive to benefit RSL midfielder Andy Williams' wife, Marcia, who is battling leukemia.

Registering as a bone marrow donor is more than a cheek swab, it is a commitment to help save a life. All donors who register are placed on the national registry and can potentially be a life-saving match for Marcia and thousands of others like her who are battling life-threatening blood cancers and need a bone marrow transplant. By hosting Saturday's event, the Red Bulls join a growing stable of six MLS teams that have joined forces with DKMS and local organizing group Soccer Unites Utah to grow the bone marrow database, giving more hope to Marcia and others who are in need.

As a non-profit organization, DKMS relies on the generosity of individuals to help finance the $65 cost DKMS pays to tissue type each bone marrow donor who registers. For Saturday's drive, there is no cost to donors, but donations are voluntary and will be collected at the Giants Stadium event. Every dollar counts, and 100% of donations will be used to register donors and add them on the National Registry. To find out more information on how you can become a bone marrow donor, or to donate to DKMS, please visit www.dkmsamericas.org or call 1-866-340-3567.

It's another week and another Sierra Mist Goal of the Week candidate donning the Claret-and-Cobalt, as MF Javier Morales' game-winning strike from last Saturday's 2-1 victory over D.C. United was chosen as one of the six finishes up for debate this week.
