San Jose Earthquakes News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The San Jose Earthquakes fell to the Colorado Rapids 2-1 on Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. A stoppage-time goal for Colorado while San Jose was down to 10 men proved to be the difference in the match.
Following a first-half goal by Rapids defender Tommy Smith, the Earthquakes equalized in the 58th minute on the left foot of Magnus Eriksson. Guram Kashia earned a penalty kick that was slotted past the keeper by Eriksson to level the score.
The Quakes continued to attack in the second frame, posting nine shots - four on target - in the half and nearly finding a go-ahead goal on numerous occasions.
A skirmish in the 89th minute saw several players cautioned while Quakes defender Shea Salinas was shown a straight red card, forcing San Jose to play the remainder of the match down a man. Colorado capitalized when Bismark Adjei-Boateng's deflected shot found its way into the back of the net three minutes into stoppage time.
The Earthquakes return home to take on Toronto FC at Avaya Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 6:45 p.m. PT. The match will air live on NBC Sports California, KNBR 1050 and 1370 KZSF.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH MIKAEL STAHRE
On the match tonight:
"It was an equal game. We lost in the very last minute, but I thought we deserved a tie in this game. It's a fine line between winning and losing and we were really close to scoring a few times. We created a lot of chances in the second half. I'm pleased with the effort, especially the second half."
On the altitude and heat playing a factor:
"It's hard to play at altitude, but that's the reality and we have to deal with it. I think the guys showed a great attitude and I think we are on the right track for sure. It's a pity we couldn't win or tie this game."
SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER NICK LIMA
On his team's result tonight:
"It's a bad result. We come here and we expect to get three points and worse-case scenario a tie. I think that in the second half we deserved better, but the way things unfolded, we didn't get anything."
On the best way to move on after the tough loss:
"It's the same as when you win, you have to put it in the past. You have to take it one game at a time. We still have 11 left now and we have to go on and win as many as we can."
