San Jose (Thursday, April 9, 2004) - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the club has acquired forward Chris Brown from the New England Revolution in exchange for future considerations.

Brown, 27, is entering his sixth season in MLS, playing with the Kansas City Wizards for the first four and a half years of his career before joining the Revolution in a trade toward the end of the 2003 season.

"I had the privilege of playing with Chris in Kansas City when he first entered the league," Earthquakes President and General Manager Alexi Lalas said. "I am excited about getting a player with his experience and talent on the field and his quality off the field."

Brown joined the Revolution on Aug. 20, 2003 and scored a hat trick in his first start for New England before having his season cut short with a broken left foot. Since 1999, Brown has scored 18 career regular season goals and registered 11 assists. Brown helped the Wizards to the MLS Cup Championship in 2000 and has appeared in ten postseason games, scoring one goal and registering two assists. The former Portland University star has played 7,668 minutes in his MLS career and has tallied over 1,000 minutes in each of his five previous years in the league.

"I'm very excited to be going to a team that has just won the championship," Brown said. "I can play a lot of different positions and I am looking to help the team in any way possible by just fitting in with the group."
