Colorado Rapids News Release
DENVER, CO (04-06-04)- With a week off in-between their season opener on Saturday April 3 in Dallas against the Dallas Burn and their home opener at INVESCO Field against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, April 17, the Colorado Rapids have announced that they will take on the Air Force Academy's men's soccer team on Saturday, April 10 in Colorado Springs.
Under the direction of head coach Lou Sagastume, who will be entering his 26th season in charge, the Falcons compiled a 10-9-1 record last season and finished sixth in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. They fell to New Mexico in the semifinals of the conference tournament and barely missed out on a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Cadets will lose just three graduating seniors from last season's club and will be one of the early favorites to win the MPSF next season.
The match against Air Force will mark the seventh time in the last eight years that the Rapids have squared off against Air Force in a scrimmage, and it will be the fourth friendly of the year for the Rapids against a college side. In February, while the Rapids were in Bradenton, Florida, they defeated the University of Central Florida 2-1 with John Spencer scoring one of the Rapids' goals. The Black and Blue picked up their second win against a college team on Tuesday, March 23 with a 4-0 triumph over the University of Denver at Pioneer Field. On Wednesday, the Rapids will take on the Colorado School of Mines at 4:00 p.m. (MT) at the team's training facility in Westminster. Last year the Rapids earned a 3-0 victory over CSM in their April scrimmage.
Tickets for the match between Air Force and the Rapids, which will kick off at 5:00 p.m. (MT), will be available through the Air Force Academy box office on the day of the game. Individual tickets will cost $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children, and all seating will be General Admission.
The Rapids open the home portion of their 2004 MLS schedule one week later on Saturday, April 17 when they host Western Conference rivals the Los Angeles Galaxy at INVESCO Field at Mile High. The match will kick off at 7:00 p.m. (MT) and can be seen live on Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain. Season tickets and individual match tickets for all Rapids home matches are available and on sale now. Call 303-825-GOAL for tickets or more information.
