San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that they participated in the weighted Major League Soccer lottery and won the rights to Brazilian forward Pablo Campos. Campos had signed a multi-year contract with MLS and was assigned to the Quakes via the lottery. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Campos holds a green card and will not count as an international on the Quakes roster.
"This is a player we are familiar with and we believe that he can be a solid player at the MLS level," said General Manager of Soccer Operations John Doyle. "He brings good size and has good feet. He also has shown a knack for putting the ball in the net."
Campos, 25, most recently played in the Swedish Allsvenskan (premier league in Sweden) with GAIS Göteborg. He played in eight matches with GAIS in 2008. He made the jump to Sweden from the Fresno Fuego in the USL's Premier Development League in the summer of last year.
With the Fuego, he made 25 appearances and scored 32 goals over two seasons. In 2007, he was the league leader in goals with 18 and helped lead the Fuego to the league semifinals. In 2008 before his move to GAIS, he had four multi-goal games, including two hat tricks, against the Bakersfield Brigade and the Los Angeles Legends.
The Sao Paulo native played college soccer at Oklahoma Baptist University from 2005-06, before transferring to Fresno Pacific University, where he finished his college career. He was a 2007 NSCAA adidas NAIA Men's All-American at Fresno Pacific. In 2007, the 6-2 striker tallied 17 goals and added nine assists in 21 matches played.
Transaction: San Jose Earthquakes (MLS) - Earthquakes sign F Pablo Campos.
