Early Runs Lead to 9-1 Win

The SeaWolves, thanks to a large early lead, ended a four-game losing streak on Sunday night at First Energy Stadium, taking down the Reading Phillies 9-1.

The SeaWolves jumped out to a large first inning lead on Phillies starter Brody Colvin. Daniel Fields led off with a single and he stole second. Niuman Romero walked putting two on base. With one out, Jordan Lennerton doubled home both baserunners for a 2-0 Erie lead. Avisail Garcia was hit by a pitch giving the 'Wolves two baserunners again for Tony Plagman. Plagman singled home Lennerton for a 3-0 lead. Brandon Douglas then followed with a three-run home run over the wall in left for a 6-0 lead. The home run for Douglas was his second and first since July 16.

Erie added to the lead in the sixth as Douglas led off against reliever Julio Rodriguez and belted his second home run of the game for a 7-0 lead.

In the seventh, the SeaWolves continued to add to their advantage. Niuman Romero led off with his league-leading 150th hit. A wild pitch moved Romero from first to third and he scored on a Nick Castellanos double for an 8-0 lead. Castellanos scored a one-out Garica double for a 9-0 lead.

Reading's lone run came in the bottom of the eighth as Darin Ruf belted his league-leading 35th home run off of Tyler Clark making it 9-1.

Ramon Garica (9-9) was superb for the SeaWolves tossing six shutout innings, allowing five hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Garcia has allowed one earned run or fewer in three of his last four starts.
