Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Avista Stadium - Spokane, WA) - Canadians starter LHP Zak Wasilewski (wazz-ill-ew-ski) gave up six earned runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and Vancouver never recovered falling 9-3 to Spokane on Sunday afternoon to fall three games back of the Indians in the Northwest League's North Division with 13 games remaining in the first half pennant chase.
A trio of home runs peppered Wasilewski and the Canadians in the bottom of the 1st inning as 2B Seth Spivey, RF Luke Tendler and 1B Fernando Vivili each cleared the fences at Avista Stadium to help build an early 6-0 lead.
The Canadians would draw to within three in the top of the 3rd inning as CF Roemon Fields, SS Franklin Barreto and 1B Ryan McBroom all connected on doubles before DH Michael De La Cruz singled to bring McBroom home and silence the announced crowd of 3,755 fans in Spokane.
RHP Andrew Case would give up a run over his two innings of work striking out two before turning the ball over to LHP Tim Mayza and RHP Francisco Gracesqui (gra-cess-ski).
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 14-10 (.583) on the season while Spokane moves three games clear of the Canadians in the North with a 17-7 (.708) record through 24 games. The Northwest League now rests for the first off day of the summer (Monday) before resuming on Tuesday evening.
