Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Jordan Hotchkiss threw a solid six innings and Efrain added four RBI and the Hillcats took the rubber match over the Pelicans, 6-1. The series win is Lynchburg's second straight to begin the second half of the season.

The Cats' early offense started right away. Cody Puckett walked to lead off the bottom of the first, stole second and scored on second baseman Travis Jones' throwing error. Felix Perez reached on that error.

In the second inning, Shane Carlson reached on a one-out single. Efrain Contreras drove Carlson in with a double to left field. Brodie Greene singled later in the inning to drive in Contreras, and the Hillcats took a 3-0 lead into the third.

The Pelicans scored an unearned run off Cats starter Jordan Hotchkiss. Matt Kennelly reached on an error to lead off the inning. The next three hitters also reached, and Kenelly scored on a wild pitch during Mycal Jones' at-bat. But after Jones walked, Hotchkiss struck out the next three batters to end the inning and limit the damage to one run.

Contreras doubled the Hillcats lead in the third with one swing of the bat. Neftali Soto led off the inning with a single, and with two outs Carlson reached on third baseman Samuel Sime's throwing error. Contreras hammered Myrtle Beach starter Matt Crim's 1-1 pitch over the left field wall for a three-run blast.

Hotchkiss had another great outing in the starter's role. In only his sixth start on the season he threw a career-high six innings and gave up one unearned run. In fact, he only allowed two hits, and didn't give one up after the third inning. He struck out seven and earns the win, moving to 5-1 on the season.

Chase Ware made his first appearance in Lynchburg and threw two perfect innings and struck out four. Sean Watson rounded out the game with a scoreless ninth inning on the mound.

Lynchburg heads on the road for a brief, three-game series in Wilmington starting tomorrow at 7:05. James Avery (3-2, 4.01) takes the hill for the Cats in the series opener with the division-rival Blue Rocks. Catch all the action on KD Country 105.5 FM in Lynchburg or Lynchburg-Hillcats.com.
