THE HILLCATS: Last night Lynchburg battled back from an early four-run deficit to earn a 9-8 victory over Myrtle Beach at City Stadium to even the three-game series at a game a piece...The Hillcats have now won three out of four games...Tonight is the deciding game of the set with the Pelicans and the last contest of a brief three-game homestand...
VS. MYRTLE BEACH: The Hillcats are 4-4 against the Pelicans this season and 2-3 at home...They went 12-8 against the Birds last season and were 7-4 at BB&T Coastal Field...Lynchburg's 10-3 win at Myrtle Beach last season on June 16th clinched the first half Northern Division Championship...Myrtle Beach has the all-time advantage in the series 121-107, and they are 56-57 in the Hill City...
FAR FROM A CLEAN SHEET: Lynchburg and Myrtle Beach have combined to score 36 runs in the first two games of the series...Last night they scored 17 and on Sunday night they plated 19 runs...The 19 runs were the most combined runs in a Hillcats game this season...Th 17 runs by the Cats is the most they have scored this season in back-to-back games...The Birds hit double digits in this series for the first time since April and the nine runs last night by the Cats tied their season-high...The Hillcats and Pelicans are the two lowest scoring team in the Carolina League...
DIVING SAVE ON A WORM BURNER: In the top of the ninth inning last night Myrtle Beach had the tying run in scoring position with two outs when INF Samuel Sime hit a sharply hit grounder up the middle past the mound...SS Brodie Greene dove to his left to get to the ball and then flipped to second from his knees to record the last out of the ballgame...
SUBSTITUTIONS: The Hillcats have made several moves since the all-star break and yesterday they made another one Daniel Guerrero to the roster and activating him from the Disabled List...Saturday they added OF Felix Perez to the roster and placed RHP Nick Christiani on the Disabled List...Perez was promoted from the Rookie Dominican Reds...Lynchburg also recently promoted RHP Brad Boxberger and INF Carlos Mendez to Double-A Carolina...INF Alex Buchholz, INF Miguel Rojas and Christiani were recently placed on the Disabled List and RHP Chase Ware and INF Shane Carlson were promoted to Lynchburg from Low-A Dayton...
HAT TRICK: Last night the Hillcats hit three home runs in a game for the first time all season...
BACK TO THE PITCH: RHP Julio Teheran gave up nine runs (eight earned) in five and 1/3 innings to take the loss...Prior to last night he had not given up more than three runs in an outing all season and had only allowed six runs in six starts in the Carolina League...The 19-year old righty was a Mid-Season All-Star in the CL, is the top rated pitching prospect in the Braves system and is representing Atlanta in the Futures Game during MLB's All-Star break...Teheran entered the game with a 1.38 ERA and departed with a 2.84 earned run average...
GOALASO: UTIL Neftali Soto belted an opposite field grand slam to snap a 5-5 tie and put Lynchburg in front for good...After going without a four-run homer through the first 72 games of the season, the Hillcats have smacked two in the last three games (OF Kyle Day hit one in Kinston on Saturday night)...With his ten home runs Soto is now tied with current teammate UTIL Cody Puckett and former teammate C Devin Mesoraco for the team lead in long balls and for fifth in the Carolina League in dingers...
STRIKER: OF Kyle Day missed time at the tail end of the first half of the season with a heel injury that also limited him to designated hitter duty at times...Last night he was in the outfield and went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk...On Sunday night he went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, two runs scored and a walk...His triple in the seventh inning was ruled to have hit off the wall and stayed in the field of play, but upon review of the replay it appeared to have hit the netting in front of the jumbotron and bounced back into the field of play...In his last four games he is 8-for-15 (.533) with a double, a triple, a home run, eight RBI and three runs scored...His grand slam on Saturday night was the first of his career, the first by a Hillcat this season and the first against Kinston this year as well...
IN-SWINGER: OF Josh Fellhauer went 1-for-3 with a run and two walks last night and he has now hit in eight of his last nine games...In those eight games he is 11-for-32 (.344) with a double, a home run, two RBI and six runs scored...This after he started the month 9-for-54 (.167)...On Monday night he hit his fifth home run of the season...It was his first home run in 134 at-bats...The last home run the left-handed hitter smacked was on May 18th against Wilmington...After homering four times in his first 37 games, he went 32 games without one...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Matt Crim was selected by the Braves in the 21st round of last years draft out of The Citadel...His senior season in the Southern Conference he went 8-4 with a 4.10 ERA in 14 starts...He made his professional debut last year with Rookie Danville and had a 10-2 mark with a 3.18 ERA in 13 games (11 starts)...He led the Appalachian League in wins and was eighth in ERA...This season at the Advanced-A level he has gone 4-6 with a 4.28 ERA in 16 games (11 starts) with Myrtle Beach...In his only appearance against Lynchburg he gave up five runs in five innings and took a no-decision in a game the Hillcats won 7-6 in 10 innings...
