Vancouver Canadians News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - A two-run homer from #8 Blue Jays prospect Cade Doughty in the bottom of the first proved to be the only runs the Canadians could muster in a 3-2 loss to the Everett AquaSox [Mariners] in front of a sellout crowd at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium Friday afternoon.
Doughty's blast in the opening frame was set up by a two-out double from Michael Turconi, who extended his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games. Up stepped the Denham Springs, LA native, who launched an 0-1 pitch high and deep to left field for his team-best 12th home run of the season.
C's starter Kevin Miranda pitched well enough to earn the win after surrendering a third inning run but nothing more over five stanzas. He scattered four hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out two.
Everett completed their comeback and took the lead for good in the sixth when a lead-off walk to Harry Ford was followed by a two-run homer off the bat of Hogan Windish to make it 3-2. Vancouver brought the go-ahead run to the dish in each of their last four at-bats from the sixth through the ninth but couldn't put any rallies together as their winning streak ended at four games.
Doughty finished the day with two hits and two RBI to pace the offense while newcomer Jeff Wehler logged two hits for the second straight game.
Vancouver will aim for a series win tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. when Michael Dominguez takes the ball opposite Reid VanScoter. Coverage is available on CanadiansBaseball.com, the MiLB First Pitch app, Bally Live and the Sportsnet Radio Network.
