Mississippi RiverKings News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (14-16-5) fell for only the second time to the Huntsville Havoc (13-16-4) this season as their losing streak continued to four in a 7-3 loss to the Havoc on Friday night.
The Havoc jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Corey Fulton's slap shot beat Matt Krahn over the blocker to put Huntsville up 1-0 just 39 seconds into the game. At the 9:48 mark, Anthony Battaglia's shot beat Krahn blocker side to chase Krahn from the game and put Huntsville up by two at home heading into the first intermission.
In the second, Huntsville extended their lead early. Brett Liscomb's shot found the back of the net past David Wilson to extend the Havoc lead to three at the 2:42 mark of the second. Bill Baker found a Leland Fidler rebound in at the face-off circle and rifled it past Wilson to give the Havoc a four goal lead before Aaron McGill's shot beat Wilson to give Huntsville a five-goal lead going into the third. Huntsville pushed the lead to six at the 8:50 mark of the third on Nick Lazorko's first goal of the season.
The physical play picked up at the 11:07 mark of the final frame when Tyler Sheldrake dropped the gloves with Sam Cannata that set the tone for the next 30 seconds of play. The next half-minute saw four fights, including a line brawl that included both goaltenders and three skaters from each side. When it was all situated, there were nine fighting majors and four game misconducts.
The RiverKings took the momentum from the fights into the last minutes of the game. Kevin Willer ripped a slap shot past new Havoc netminder Jonathan LaRose to cut the deficit to five. Tomas Busek ripped a wrist shot past LaRose 30 seconds later for his first professional goal, at the 15:06 mark as the 'Kings trailed 6-2. Mike MacDonal converted on a play setup by Busek as his wrist shot beat LaRose high as the 'Kings came within three before Bryan Doerrsam picked up a rebound in front of Krahn and buried it past the RiverKings netminder to give the Havoc a 7-3 victory.
