Surge Continue Domination of RiverKings

Make it a happy half dozen for the Mississippi Surge against the Mississippi RiverKings. Saturday night the Surge chalked up a 5-2 win at the Landers Center in Southaven, Miss., giving them a perfect 6-0-0 record agaisnt their in-state rivals this season.

The win also moves the Surge five points ahead of the RiverKings in sixth place in the Southern Professional Hockey League standings, in spite of playing two less games. With six wins in the last seven games, the Surge is also now just six points out of first place.

In the first period, the Surge jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Kyle Kudroch, and Adam Stuart. That lead was wiped out in a 53 second span in the second period when the RiverKings' Todd Hosmer scored a power play goal at the four minute mark, and Matt Harrington added another power play goal at 4:53. The Surge regained control, while shorthanded again. This time, it was Reid Edmondson scoring for the Surge, giving them a shorthanded goal for a 3-2 lead. It was the fourth shorthanded gaol by the Surge this season.

Stuart's second goal of the game gave the Surge some breathing room at 8:28 of the third period, and Branden Kosolofsky finished off the scoring five and a half minutes later. The Surge is off until next Friday, when they will again visit the RiverKings.
