Early Goals Give Mavs 3-1 Win Over Dayton Gems

March 1, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release

Just one game after matching a season-high for goals scored in a single game, Dayton was held to just one goal as Missouri defeated the Gems 3-1 on Tuesday night.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first two periods, the Gems took 17 shots in the third period to try and pull their way back into the game.

Chris Lipsett scored on one of those 17 shots in the third. The goal was Lipsett's fifth in the past two games and his 13th of the season.

In the end, Lipsett's goal wasn't enough for the Gems to overcome a three goal deficit.

Missouri did all its scoring in the first two periods of the game. Mike Berry scored just 2:24 into the game to give the Mavs an early 1-0 lead. Berry and Nathan O'Nabigon then added a goal in the second period. The three goals in the first two periods proved to be more than what the Mavs needed to beat the Gems.

The Mavs outshot the Gems 33-30 in the game. Dayton's goaltender Jeff Jakaitis recorded 30 saves on the night.

The Gems will continue their three game road trip by heading to Tulsa, OK to take on the Oilers. The game will start at 8:05 p.m. on Thursday, March 3.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
