Stockton, CA. - An error in the first opened the door wide open for the Stockton Ports who defeated the Modesto Nuts 9-1 on Wednesday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
Alex Balog (L, 1-1) retired the first two hitters quickly in the first to begin his start for the Nuts (24-42). James Harris began the rally with a single up the middle with two outs. Joe Bennie followed with a double before Sandber Pimentel walked to load the bases. Seth Brown smacked a line drive right at first baseman Collin Ferguson. It popped in and out of his glove allowing a run to score. Argenis Raga followed and crushed a three-run triple to hang a four spot in the first inning.
Balog allowed just one earned run on a Sandber Pimentel solo home run. Balog worked 4.2 innings allowing six hits, walking three and striking out four.
Nuts could manage just one run against the Ports' (24-32) pitching staff. Zach Erwin (W, 3-7) started and allowed just one run over five innings while walking two and striking out four.
