Thornton, Martin Crack Quakes In Rubber Game

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Trent Thornton tossed seven strong innings and Jason Martin hit an early three-run home run as the JetHawks routed the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 13-2, to take the series on Wednesday night at LoanMart Field.

Thornton (3-3) rebounded after allowing two early runs to toss a career-high seven innings becoming the first JetHawks starter to complete seven innings this season. He struck out a career-high eight batters and allowed six hits without issuing a walk.

The right-hander was helped early by Jason Martin who gave Lancaster (34-31) its first lead with a three-run home run, his 11th of the season. The opposite field shot was the first of three hits on the night for Martin.

Antonio Nunez added to the JetHawks' lead with a two-run single in the third inning. Nunez doubled in two runs later in the game and finished with a total of four RBI in the contest.

Quakes (40-26) starter Yaisel Sierra (4-4) allowed eight runs on 10 hits over five innings in the loss.

Garrett Stubbs led off the sixth inning with a double and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch, increasing the JetHawks' lead to 9-2.

Lancaster added its final four runs in the eighth inning. Reliever Felipe Gonzalez walked the first three hitters in the frame to load the bases with no outs. Bobby Boyd followed with a two-run double and Bryan Muniz picked up a run with his second single of the game. Boyd scored the final run on a Brooks Marlow sacrifice-fly.

Reliever Andrew Thome tossed the final two innings to finish the victory.

The JetHawks return home to begin a four-game series with the Bakersfield Blaze on Thursday night. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
