Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- The Lancaster JetHawks hammered the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for a second straight night at LoanMart Field, dealing a serious blow to the Quakes' first-half chances with a 13-2 win.

After a second straight loss on their home field to Lancaster, the Quakes now trail the first-place High Desert Mavericks by two games with only four to go, after High Desert fell to Lake Elsinore on Wednesday evening.

The Quakes scored the game's first run in the first inning against Lancaster starter Trent Thornton (3-3), as Matt Beaty's two-out single put Rancho in front, 1-0.

The JetHawks scored 13 of the game's next 14 runs however, getting to Quakes' starter Yaisel Sierra for eight runs on ten hits over five innings.

Sierra gave up a three-run homer to Jason Martin in the second, as the JetHawks took the lead for good, at 3-1.

Rancho closed the gap to one in the bottom of the inning, as Joey Curletta's RBI single chased home Michael Ahmed, making it a 3-2 affair.

The Quakes would get no closer though, as Lancaster scored ten unanswered runs to close it out.  Antonio Nunez had a two-run single in the third and a two-run double in the fifth off of Sierra (4-4), as the JetHawks led 8-2 after five.

Lancaster got to Rancho reliever Felipe Gonzalez for one in the sixth and four more in the eighth to put it away, taking a commanding 13-2 lead.

The Quakes (40-26) will need help down the stretch, as they head to San Jose on Thursday for the final four games of the first half, while High Desert (42-24) will host the last-place Stockton Ports from the North Division.

On Thursday, Rancho will send Grant Holmes (5-3) to the mound, while the San Jose Giants will answer with Jason Forjet (6-4), with game time at 7:00pm.

The Quakes return home to open second-half action on Thursday, June 23rd, as they host the High Desert Mavericks in game one of a four-game series. Thursday will be a Thirsty Thursday, sponsored by Bernard's, as fans will enjoy drink specials throughout the night, including $2 Pepsi products, $3 domestic 16-oz drafts and $4 16-oz premium drafts, wine, champagne and margaritas. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or rcquakes.com.
