Eagles Suffer Another 1-Goal Loss on the Road

Colorado Eagles News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Colorado Eagles, 4-3, in the first of a three-game set between the teams this week. The loss dropped Colorado's record on the road this season to 0-4-2, with each loss coming by just a one goal margin. The game featured a total of 16 power plays between two of the ECHL's top three power play units, but each squad scored just once on the man-advantage to go 1-for-8 on the night.
The Steelheads got on the board first when Austin Fyten scored a short-handed goal -- the Eagles' league-leading 7th allowed through just 19 games -- 3:20 into the first frame. Idaho then doubled their lead at 16:46 when Austin Smith put home an Adrian Foster rebound from the crease.
But just over half a minute later, Colorado countered to cut the lead in half following a faceoff in the right circle of the offensive zone when Riley Nelson snapped off a shot that deflected past Josh Robinson.
At 15:10 of the second period, Andrew Carroll deflected home a Jace Coyle point shot to make it 3-1 for the Steelheads. Idaho looked to increase that margin just minutes later with a full two minutes worth of 5-on-3 play, but Colorado was able to kill it off to keep themselves within a pair of goals heading into the second intermission.
The Eagles' -- and the league's -- top line of Chad Costello, Jack Combs & Michael Forney combined for a goal 6:30 into the final frame when Combs one-timed a quick shot from the low slot past Robinson. And at 13:45, Colorado tied the game at 3 with their lone power-play tally when Cody Sol's shot from the point was deflected on its way to the net before rolling off the goaltender's back and into the cage.
But just over a minute later the Steelheads would get their own lucky bounce on a power play -- and Sol was involved again -- when Justin Dowling's pass attempt through the crease deflected off of Adam Brown and then off of Sol before making its way over the goal line, giving the home team a 4-3 lead that would hold up the rest of the way.
