Eagles Sign Former Calder Cup Champion Taylor

August 19, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames and the Adirondack Flames of the AHL, announced Tuesday that they have signed forward Taylor Vause for the 2014-15 season. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward split time last season between the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL and the Texas Stars of the AHL. The 22 year-old posted 14 points, including 10 goals during his 21 games with the Steelheads. The Calgary, Alberta native also notched nine points in 24 games with the Stars, ultimately culminating with Vause and the Stars clinching the Calder Cup as the champions of the AHL in 2014. In total, Vause has registered 28 points in 84 AHL contests, all with Texas.

"Taylor is a dynamic young player whose best hockey is still yet to be played," said Eagles president and general manager Chris Stewart. "He provides tremendous offensive abilities and he knows what it takes to be a leader and to see a season all the way through to a championship."

Prior to making his pro debut in the AHL, Vause spent five seasons with the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL, with his final season spent as the team's captain. The centerman notched 190 points in 273 total games with the Broncos, including a 2011-12 season that would see him lead the team in scoring, netting 37 goals and 46 assists over 72 regular season contests. Vause would also claim the Doug Wickenheiser Trophy as the WHL's Humanitarian of the Year in 2012.

"Right off the bat I was excited about the opportunity to come to Colorado," said Vause. "I had heard that it was a great organization even before I played against them in the ECHL. They have a great atmosphere in the building and when they called I felt right away that it would be a good fit. A fresh start in a new organization should be a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to it."
