Colorado Eagles News Release
(Loveland, CO) - A three-goal rally in the third period helped the Colorado Eagles defeat the Alaska Aces 4-2 on Wednesday at the Budweiser Events Center. Forward Jesse Mychan picked up the game-winning goal, while goaltender Kris Lazaruk notched 33 saves in the win.
After a quiet first period that saw the Aces outshoot Colorado 12-5, the Eagles headed into the intermission with the game still scoreless.
Midway through the middle frame, the Aces struck first, as a scuffle in front of the net resulted in a roughing penalty for Eagles defenseman Teigan Zahn. Colorado killed off the penalty but got caught as Zahn was stepping out of the box. Aces forward Anthony DeLuca snapped a wrister through traffic and gave the Aces a 1-0 lead at the 12:07 mark of the second.
Eagles defenseman Adrian Veideman got the equalizer for Colorado, continuing his recent hot streak with a bullet from the left circle. Veideman's shot tied the game at 1-1 with 4:05 left to play in the period.
The Aces would regain the lead before time ran out in the period, as a shot from Alaska defenseman Marc-Andre Levesque deflected off a skate in the low-slot and slid into the Eagles net, giving the Aces a 2-1 advantage with just 1:56 remaining in the middle frame.
Alaska made a goaltending change to start the third period, putting in former Eagles goalie Jacob Deserres after starting goaltender Troy Redman left the game with an apparent injury.
Colorado earned their first goal of the third after forward Everett Sheen tipped a shot from the blue line from defenseman Channing Boe past DeSerres. Sheen's goal tied the game at 2-2 with 14:03 to play in match.
Just 34 seconds later, the Eagles would take a 3-2 lead as forward Jesse Mychan swooped down the right wing and cut to the net, firing the puck past DeSerres to give Colorado the 3-2 lead at the 6:29 mark of the third.
The Eagles would add some extra padding with a goal from forward Ludwig Karlsson, who scored from the goal line, giving Colorado a 4-2 lead with 9:33 to play in the game. Lazaruk and the Eagles would stay tough defensively and hold on for the 4-2 victory, their second win in as many games.
The Eagles and Aces are back on the ice Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM MST. ?
