Cape Breton Eagles News Release
It's win or go home tonight for the Cape Breton Eagles as they take on the Newfoundland Regiment in game five of their best of seven first round playoff series.
The Eagles and Regiment had a day off following a game four that saw Newfoundland send Cape Breton to the brink of elimination. Ryan Dwyer scored twice and Louis-Antoine Denault stopped 20 of 21 shots in a 5-1 victory for Newfoundland. It was the second straight game in which Maxime Sauthier scored for the Eagles.
Connor Towle was between the pipes for the Eagles, starting his first game of the series and stopped 26 of 31 shots. His goaltending partner Félix Hamel, who started the first three games of the series, is one of three Eagle players looking to extend their QMJHL careers this evening. Hamel, captain Lewis Gendron and rugged winger Lucas Romeo have filled the Eagles overage slots throughout the season.
Injuries have hurt the Eagles throughout the series, with Rory Pilling the most recent player to join the injured ranks having not played in game four. Eliot Litalien, who had been injured after a hit by Dawson Sharkey in game two, has been skating with the Eagles and could spark the club if he's able to return. Sharkey was given a two game suspension for the hit and is ineligible to return tonight.
Should the Eagles win this evening, it would force the series back to Newfoundland for game six on Easter Sunday and a potential game seven on Tuesday night.
