Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, CO â The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced this afternoon that left winger Ryan Tobler and defenseman Jesse Cook have been called up to play for the Pittsburg Penguins' affiliate team, the Wilkes Barre/ Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Calgary native Ryan Tobler has played in all 51 games this season as an Eagle. He is second in the CHL in points with 79 (30-49) and first in the CHL in +/- at 39. Tobler was called up from the Springfield Falcons of the AHL in the 2001-02 season and skated in four games with the Tampa Bay Lightening of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was signed as a free agent by the Nashville Predators on May 1, 2002. He also skated for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL last season (2002-03) where in 58 games he recorded 31 points (13-18) while serving 143 penalty minutes.
"We wish Ryan the best of luck, but deep down we hope to have him back," said Eagles' head coach Chris Stewart. "But it is possibly the last chance for him to have a shot at the NHL."
Cook, a 6' 5" 215-pound defenseman was selected by the Calgary Flames in the fifth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He's also played in all 51 Eagles' games this season amassing 16 points (4-12) and 118 penalty minutes. The Denver native played his first professional hockey with the Lexington Men O'War in the East Coast Hockey League last season. In 54 games with the Men O'War he tallied four points (1-3) and had 48 penalty minutes. He played his college hockey at Denver University, and in four seasons as a Pioneer, Cook had six goals and 53 assists.
"Jesse was a great find. He is a good, young prospect, and everyone is looking for a 6' 5" defenseman," stated head coach Chris Stewart.
The players will join the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins tonight. They will skate with the team in the morning practice and travel to Philadelphia to take on the Phantoms tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. EST.
