CHL Ray Miron President\'s Cup Tour Begins Friday

Published on February 17, 2004 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League has today announced plans for a tour of various CHL arenas of the Ray Miron President's Cup championship trophy, presented annually to the CHL's post-season champion. The trophy will be displayed prominently at eight of the CHL's 17 venues over the next month at CHL games. A collection of limited edition sports memorabilia will also be on display in conjunction with the Cup Tour, with all items available through auction. The Cup will also make several special appearances at local team sponsors and team events during the 24-day tour of CHL cities, designed to promote the upcoming CHL post-season.

The Ray Miron President's Cup is a sterling silver trophy with a black base standing 28.5 inches tall and weighing 19.5 pounds, and honors both CHL founder Ray Miron, recently named a recipient of the NHL's Lester Patrick trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States, and original Western Professional Hockey League President Rick Kozuback, who now serves as President/CEO of Global Entertainment Corporation, operator of the CHL. The trophy was named in May of 2001 following the CHL and WPHL merger.

CHL fans will be encouraged to get their photographs taken with the Ray Miron President's Cup at all locations. During the trip, the Cup will travel nearly 7,000 miles round trip from the CHL front office in Phoenix, Arizona. The Cup Tour begins this Friday in Oklahoma City, where the Blazers host the Amarillo Gorillas, and concludes March 13th in Laredo, as the Bucks entertain the Austin Ice Bats.

The CHL continues to lead all "AA" professional hockey leagues in North America with a per-game average attendance of 4,367 through 431 games played.

Pointstreak Performance of the Week

Rio Grande Valley left winger Matic Kralj helped the Killer Bees open up a 9-point lead on Southeast Division rival Austin with an outstanding performance in a crucial 4-1 home ice win over the Ice Bats. After trailing 1-0 early in the first period, Kralj scored power play goals in both the first and second periods, then set up Andrew Taylor's power play marker in the third frame. Kralj's pair of goals gives him 14 on the season, approaching his career high of 17 set last season as a member of the Lubbock Cotton Kings.
