Indianapolis Ice News Release

ROAD TRIPPERS: The Ice is set to begin its longest road trip of the season beginning with Friday's contest against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The road stint spans over a 22-day period in which ten games will be played in eight different cities. The Ice owns a combined record of 16-8-2 against its eight road trip opponents and will be facing San Angelo and Amarillo for the first time this season and Lubbock for the first time in franchise history. The entire trip with stops in Shreveport, Fort Worth, Lubbock, Wichita, Tulsa, San Angelo, Odessa and Amarillo will cover 5,225 miles, which is the equivalent to about 10 1/2 Indianapolis 500's, or about seven trips to New York City.

PLAYOFF BANTER: The race remains tight as only nine points separate the five teams in the hunt for the final two Northern Conference playoff berths behind front runners Bossier-Shreveport and Colorado.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Special teams have played a vital role in the team's current 5-1-0 stretch. The Ice was 6-10 on the power play in the four games last week and ranks second overall in the CHL on the power play (55-257, 21.4%). The penalty killing unit has also warmed up of late as the club has killed off 29 of its opponents last 30 power play attempts.

THE USUAL SUSPECTS: Ice defensemen Bernie John and Mario Doyon are currently the top-scoring defensive duo in all of pro hockey with a combined total of 106 points (33G, 73A) scored this season. John enters this week's action on a six-game point streak (3G, 6A) and is the country's top point-getter among blueliners with 60 points. With four goals in last week's play, Doyon has more goals than any other d-man in pro hockey with 19 markers on the season, which includes 11 power play goals.

FRONT LINE: Indy's top line of Jason Baird, Jared Dumba, and Dave Gilmore are coming off a successful week as the trio compiled 17 points (6G, 11A) in the four games last week. Baird had six points (2G, 4A) for the week which also included his team-leading eighth three-or-more point game of the year, while Dumba posted five points (4G, 1A) to go along with three power play goals and his team-leading sixth multiple goal game of the season. Gilmore handed out six assists, capped off by his first four-point night of the year in Sunday's win over Tulsa.
