Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
FROM THE HUNTED TO THE HUNTER
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees had a near perfect weekend this past weekend and gained five out of a possible six standing-points by going 2-0-1 on the week. Austin lost all three of their games on the week, and the Bees extended their lead over the Bats to nine standing-points. The Bees have now placed themselves in a scenario where they could chase down the Southern Conference's third ranked team, which right now is the Amarillo Gorillas. The Bees are just eight standing-points behind the Gorillas heading into the week.
FANTASTIC FEBRUARY
The Killer Bees are 5-1-1 in the month of February, which is the best February record of any Southern Conference squad. The Bees are led in the month's play by Roger Holeczy, who has 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points, but the goal production has been very spread out. 11 different Bees have tallied goals during the month, 9 have produced more than 1, and 15 players have obtained at least a point during the month. On the defensive side, the Killer Bees have held their opponents to just 11 goals in the month, as Jeff Levy has a 1.19 GAA during the month and a 95.7% save percentage. Jacque Vezina has a 1.92 GAA during the month as well. Only two players are in the minus column in the plus/minus and they are only listed as -1.
BEE OF THE WEEK
This week's "Bee of the Week" award, for their role in the previous week's games, goes out to St. Jerome, Quebec native Jason Tessier. The talented defenseman had 2 goals and 2 assists in three games for four points on the weekend. His two goals were tallied Saturday night in Laredo, as Tessier became the first Killer Bee to tally two power play goals in one game. He contributed 2 assists Sunday to earn the game's number three star. Tessier leads Bees defensemen with 28 points on the season.
SCHEDULE SEEMS FAMILIAR
The Bees will have a three-in-three weekend coming up this weekend which is almost identical to what the Bees faced in the first week of February. In that week, the Bees played in a three-in-three that was two contests against Corpus, with an Austin match-up sandwiched in between, like this week's thee-in-three, with the only difference is the Bees play two of the three games this weekend on home ice. The Bees went 2-1-0 in that three-in-three. The Bees still face Corpus Christi five times this season and complete the season series with Austin on Friday.
