Colorado Eagles News Release
ODESSA, TX- For the second straight night, the Colorado Eagles went to a shootout but found themselves on the other end as they lost to the Odessa Jackalopes 6-5 Saturday night at the Ector County Coliseum. Sebastien Thinel earned the game-winning goal in the shootout for his second goal of the game and four different Jackalopes scored the remaining goals for their 31st win of the season. Nick Parillo tallied two goals for Colorado and they remain in first place in the Northwest Division and have clinched a playoff berth for the third straight season.
Odessa scored the all-important first goal at the 15:08 mark of the first period on assists drom Dominic Leveille and Matt Crssman. The Eagles' number one power play unit answered when Greg Pankewicz beat Derek Dolson at the two minutes later for their first goal of the game. The first period ended with Colorado out shooting the Jackalopes 18-14 and tied at one goal apiece.
A total of five goals were scored in the second period. Eagles' forward Nick Parillo gave Colorado a 2-1 lead only 1:01 into the period on assists from Sean Robertson and Aaron Grosul. It was all Odessa for nearly the remainder of the period. The Jackalopes scored three unanswered goals to give them a 4-2 lead. Matt Cressman, John Kozoriz and Sebastien Thinel all lit the lamp for Odessa with the final two goals being power play goals. Colorado didn't give up just as they did against Lubbock Friday night and scored with .7 of a second remaining in the period. Brad Williamson scored his ninth goal of the season on an assist Riley Nelson. Colorado had cut the lead to 4-3 going into the final period.
Riley Nelson tied the game for Colorado only 56 seconds into the final period on an assist from Garrett Larson, but the Jackalopes again took a one-goal lead moments later when Mike Carter tallied an unassisted goal. The Eagles battled back as they have done all weekend long and tied the game at five on Nick Parillo's second goal of the game. Neither team was able to get the go ahead goal forcing it into a shootout.
Sebastien Thinel earned the game-winning goal as the Jackalopes reversed fortunes on the Eagles who had beaten Odessa 6-5 in a shootout in the second game of the season.
