Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Rayz had four different goal scorers, and a solid performance in net from Scott Reid as they skated to a 4-1 win over the Laredo Bucks on Saturday Night in their second straight meeting. The Rayz never trailed in the hockey game and finished with three points in two games this weekend against the Bucks. Corpus Christi has now registered points in four of the last five games against Laredo. The Rayz will be off until Thursday night when they visit the Odessa Jackalopes.
Just as they did the night before, the Rayz and the Bucks traded early goals and ended the first period tied 1-1. The Rayz got on the board first as Ryan Carter moved in on a breakaway and faked to his forehand where he slid the puck past Grumet-Morris at the 8:29 mark. The 19th goal for Carter tied his career high. The Bucks answered shortly after when LadislavKouba scored from the right circle at 10:52. Kouba's tally marked his third straight game with a goal. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 12-9.
Late in the second period, Chris Robertson scored from the left side of the crease to recapture the lead for the Rayz. Robertson's 11th at 18:42 made the score 2-1 and sent the Rayz into the dressing room ahead of the Bucks at the end of two periods.
In the third period, the Rayz took control scoring twice in 28 seconds. Derrick McIver scored a rebound goal at 14:24 from Robertson and Matt Holmes. Then Mike Rees blistered a one-timer from the top of the circles at 14:52 to make the score 4-1. Corpus Christi earned their second three-goal win over the Bucks in as many weeks. Chris Robertson and Derrick McIver each collected a goal and two assists in the win. With the win, the Rayz have now registered points in four of their last five games vs. the Bucks.
The Rayz win improved their record to 21-31-3 for 45 points. Laredo's record moved to 36-14-6. Scott Reid made 28 saves on 29 shots for the win, and made 60 saves on 62 shots this weekend. He raised his record to 14-16-2. Dov Grumet-Morris made 29 saves on 33 shots and took the loss, dropping his record to 14-5-2. The Rayz went 0-6 on the power play and the Bucks went 0-2. The Rayz outshot the Bucks 33-29.
Corpus Christi will return to the American Bank Center on Friday, March 10th when they host the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Fine Jewelry Outlet Ladies Night. All fans in attendance can stop by FJO in Moore Plaza and register to win an $8,000 diamond at the game. For more information, please call the Rayz (361)814-PUCK.
