Bucks Fall 4-1 In Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Laredo Bucks fell 4-1 to the Corpus Christi Rayz in front of 4,268 fans at the American Bank Center on Saturday night. The Bucks four game win streak came to an end with the loss. Laredo is 36-14-6 with a Southeast Division and Southern Conference best 78 points. The Bucks are home against the Odessa Jackalopes this Friday night. Face off set for 7:30 p.m. The Bucks magic number to clinch the Southeast Division title is two points. The Rayz scored first when forward Ryan Carter got loose on a breakaway and scored with a nice fake to the backhand and then slid the puck home on the forehand at 8:29. The Bucks tied it just over two minutes later. Forward Steve Simoes muscled out of the right corner and to the front of the net where the puck was poked loose, but forward Ladislav Kouba grabbed it and scored at 10:52. It was the 21st of the season for Kouba.

In the second period the Rayz got the only goal as defenseman Bernie John fed the puck backdoor for forward Chris Robertson who chipped it in at 18:42 to make it 2-1 Corpus Christi.

The Rayz tacked on in the third period as forward Derrick McIver scored on a rebound at 14:24 then defenseman Mike Rees connected on a slap shot at 14:52 to complete the scoring. FINAL SCORE Corpus Christi 4, Laredo 1.

Dov Grumet-Morris allowed four goals on 33 shots and took the loss to fall to 14-5-2. Scott Reid stopped 28 of 29 shots and got the win to improve to 14-16-3. The Bucks were 0-2 on the power play while Corpus Christi went 0-6. The Rayz out shot the Bucks 33-29.
