Eagles Dropped 8-1 by Titan in Bathurst

October 17, 2020 - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) - Cape Breton Eagles News Release

BATHURST - Eight different players scored for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in a 8-1 victory on Saturday over the Cape Breton Eagles.

Cole Larkin began the parade of goals in the opening period, rushing up the right wing and putting a shot in the top corner over Nicolas Ruccia. Then Mathieu Desgagnés, alone in the right circle, converted a pass from Félix-Antoine Marcotty to make it a 2-0. Ruccia held the score by turning aside a Mark Rumsey breakaway, but a Riley Kidney shot along the ice would make it 3-0 at the first siren.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the second period was more of the same as Cole Huckins redirected a shot at the 6:11 mark, and Yannic Bastarache made it 5-0 before the halfway mark of regulation. Marcotty scored after keeping on a 2 on 1 and it would spell the end of the night for Ruccia.

Both teams converted on the man advantage before the end of the middle frame. Bennett MacArthur tipped a puck in front of the net on the first Bathurst power play of the night to make it 7-0. The Eagles then found their way onto the board as Shawn Element converted his own tip to conclude the scoring in the second stanza.

The bulk of the scoring having already taken place, there were still a few highlights in the third period. William Grimard absolutely robbed Ben Allison on the goal line. However the Titan would get the last goal, as Adam McCormick's first goal as a Titan would come against his old team, finishing a one timer from Cole Huckins.

Ruccia took the loss, allowing six goals on 21 shots. Grimard stopped 11 of 13 in relief. Christian Sbaraglia picked up the win in his first QMJHL start, stopping 27 of 28 shots.

The Eagles will now head home for a pair of games against the Halifax Mooseheads. The first game goes on Friday night at 7 PM.
