QMJHL Applauds Government Support
October 17, 2020 - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release
Longueuil, QC - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League applauds the Government's financial contribution to support sports federations, associations and leagues. The funding will help the twelve Quebec-based teams to operate during the 2020-2021 season while providing our student-athletes with the necessary tools to develop themselves on the ice and at school.
"With the leadership of the Quebec Government and Minister Charest, the QMJHL can expect to operate not only in 2020-2021 but for next season as well," said Commissioner Gilles Courteau. "This support is essential for our teams, which are important economic engines for their regions. They play an integral in their community's well-being while providing extensive media coverage for their cities. It was crucial for the League's sustainability to obtain the necessary resources to keep our players, coaches and staffs in place. Consequently, we can remain the top developmental league for the National Hockey League and Canadian University hockey programs while continuing to develop tomorrow's leaders."
