
Eagles crush Oilers, 9-3

LOVELAND, CO- The Colorado Eagles crushed the Tulsa Oilers Wednesday night 9-3 at the Budweiser Events Center and broke or tied many team records in their biggest win of the season. Greg Pankewicz led all scorers with one goal and three assists, and Eagles rookies Scott Polaski and Garrett Larson each had two goals. A total of seven different Colorado players had multiple point games and three players had Gordie Howe hat tricks for the Eagles. Head Coach Chris Stewart and staff are now the representatives of the Northern Conference for the 2006 Dodge CHL All-Star Game having the best winning percentage halfway through the season. The Eagles improved their record to 19-6-1 for 39 points and remain in first place in the Northwest Division.
After scoring one goal in each of the last three games, the Eagles exploded in the first period tying a franchise record by scoring five goals. Fraser Filipic opened up the scoring with a rebound off of a Ryan Tobler shot at the 5:47 mark. Just 30 seconds later Brad Williamson jammed in a rebound to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Colorado added three more goals in the first period from Ryan Tobler, Erik Adams and Greg Pankewicz scoring all five goals on just 13 shots. The Oilers mounted 10 shots but were unable to get the puck passed Paulo Colaiacovo in the first period and Colorado took a 5-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period the Eagles continued to pour on the pressure scoring four more unanswered goals and extending their lead to 9-0. Garrett Larson scored the sixth and seventh goals for Colorado and Scott Polaski added the last two, his final goal was the team's only power play goal. Tulsa added two late goals in the second period from Jim Dahl and Paxton Schulte.
Jaroslav Cesky scored the third and final goal of the game for the Oilers at the 2:49 mark of the third period. Tempers flared following the last goal and the teams ended combining for 132 minutes in penalties.
The Eagles and Oilers meet up again on Friday night December 23 for their sixth meeting of the season.
