Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Fort Worth - Thanks to a 41 save effort from goaltender Miguel Beaudry, the Austin Ice Bats defeated the Fort Worth Brahmas 2-1 in Wednesday night Central Hockey League action at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Playing their first game under new head coach Guy Larose, the Brahmas skated with renewed enthusiasm and purpose, controlling the flow of the game for long stretches against the Ice Bats.

In the first period, the Brahmas outshot the Bats 15-4, but were unable to get anything past Beaudry. Austin was also held off the scoreboard by Fort Worth netminder Larry Sterling.

At the 6:06 mark of the second period, the Ice Bats scored the first goal of the game. Austin winger John McNabb blasted a shot from the right wing side over the shoulder of Sterling for his Ice Bats team leading fifteenth goal of the season. Fort Worth would answer back, however, when rookie forward Matt Reynolds flipped a backhand wrist shot from between the circles past Beaudry at the 12:46 mark of the second.

Austin regained the lead at 2-1 with just 50 seconds to play in the middle period when defenseman Aaron Schneekloth snuck in front of the Brahmas goal crease and poked a puck by Sterling.

Beaudry would make Schneekloth's goal stand up as the game winner. He stopped all 14 Brahmas shots that he faced in the final period, including a flurry of Brahmas scoring chances in the last 24 seconds of the game with an extra attacker on the ice for Fort Worth.

The win for Beaudry was his first as an Ice Bat and his fifth of the season. It was also the third victory of the year for Beaudry over the Brahmas; he recorded two one-goal wins over the Brahmas in the month of November as a member of the Memphis RiverKings. Beaudry was acquired by Austin from Memphis on December 16 in exchange for forward Sheldon Wenzel. Friday night's game was his first action in a Ice Bats uniform.

Despite allowing just two Austin goals on the 20 shots he faced, Sterling took the loss in net for the Brahmas.

The defeat for Fort Worth extends the Brahmas winless streak to seven consecutive games (0-6-1). Fort Worth has not won since Saturday, December 3, when they defeated the Oklahoma City Blazers 4-2. The Brahmas record is now 8-14-3 on the season. Austin improves to 10-13-2 for the year by winning their first game since December 9.

The Brahmas have just one more game before the Christmas holiday, visiting the Wichita Thunder on Friday night, December 23. Fort Worth will return home on Wednesday, December 28, hosting the defending CHL President's Cup champion Colorado Eagles at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
